What to expect and what to focus on in each of the three trimesters - a calm, simple guide from the first scan to delivery.
Pregnancy is not one long stretch - it comes in three parts, and each one asks for something a little different. Knowing what is normal in each stage helps you worry less and enjoy it more.
First trimester (week 1–12)
This is when the baby's main organs form. You may feel tired, have nausea, or go off certain foods - all normal. The focus now is folic acid, plenty of rest, and your first scan.
- Start folic acid as early as possible.
- Eat small, frequent meals to ease nausea.
- Avoid raw or half-cooked food and limit tea/coffee.
Second trimester (week 13–27)
Most women feel their best now. The nausea usually settles and energy returns. This is the time for the important anomaly scan and for gentle exercise like walking or prenatal stretching.
Third trimester (week 28–birth)
The baby grows quickly and you may feel heavier and more tired again. Check-ups become more frequent so we can keep a close watch on both of you and plan calmly for the delivery.
A good pregnancy is not about doing everything perfectly - it is about steady care and asking questions whenever something feels off.
At every stage, if something worries you - bleeding, severe pain, or reduced baby movements - do not wait. Call the clinic straight away.
